There ’s anentire Flickr albumwith more images , though again it ’s hard to be sure on the button how the maps were created since there ’s no explanation . The only thing we can say for sure : These are n’t motion picture of Earth ’s lights from space .
[ Update : HoaxofFamepoints us to a 2011 Washington Post article aboutEric Fischer and his maps project . ]

3) IsthisNASA announcing that we’ll have 6 days of complete darkness in December?
“ Comedy ” sites likeHuzlershave operate with the chronicle that there will be six straight twenty-four hour period of darkness in December due to a “ solar storm ” that will make “ dust and space debris ” to block out the sun . But do n’t trust it .
The coming days of swarthiness will supposedly last from the 16th until the 22nd of December and the Huzlers story even has fake inverted comma from NASA officials . Other web site have take there will bethree daysof complete darkness . Neither of these claim is true ( unless you last in Minnesota , where you actually wo n’t see the sun until April * ) . But the lie is spreading quickly on both Twitter and Facebook .
The freak “ days of dark ” prediction is a common cyberspace hoax and variant spread so far and wide that NASA has even had to expose these claims sometimes , likethey did in 2012 .

6) Isthismanta ray captured in 1933 real?
tremendous manta rays like this do live . But the photo above depicting Captain A.L. Kahn in 1933 with a giant devilfish is almost certainly a pseudo . The bighearted clew ? The manta ray pictured is far too rigid ( material jumbo manta ray beam are floppy when hoist up ) , there ’s a seam that you’re able to see running through the centre , and the big hint : the thingdoesn’t have an anus .
postcard and news exposure , ( like thepostcardbelow ) did n’t show the seam and whatever that little moment of light - colored fabric might be near the tail . It ’s hard not to close that there ’s something suspicious go on here . Get it ? Fishy .
Below , a photo of an actual manta re caught in 1932 off the coast of Hollywood , Florida byCaptain Jay Gould . The June 1932 outcome of theLouisiana Conservation Reviewalso includes the picture . Notice that it look a stack more floppy and life - like .

Deep Sea Newshas done a bit of digging to inquire the suspicious Captain Kahn exposure . They observe similar looking fake manta shaft of light construction picture at the American Museum of Natural History from 1917 , depict below . And though they ’re not the same fake manta from the thirties , they show you just how one could retrace such a thing . James Bellmade all kind of models for the Natural History museum , like thisgiraffe in 1928 .
My own guess is that it ’s the Captain Kahn manta ray is a plaster cast of a substantial devilfish that he indeed catch . There ’s sufficient grounds that people have made cataplasm plaster bandage of real giant mantas , like in thisphoto from 1964 . And it ’s the most logical way to put the devilfish on circuit with a carnival company , which Kahn did for at least a twain of eld .
I searched through newspaper archives from the mid-1930s and found that the manta ray exposure of Captain Kahn were pee-pee the rounds in 1933 and that eventually the “ Great Manta ” was traveling throughout the U.S. in 1934 and 35 as a sideshow act amongst “ World ’s Fair Freaks . ”

Below , a flyer for the “ Great Manta ” expo in 1934 fromMike ’s Maritime Memorabilia . Notice that the manta depict is a piece more floppy than the photo we see getting passed around on Reddit and Twitter , and more like the manta capture in Florida .

Thekids ’ cycle embedded into a treeis a act of a tourist attraction on Vashon Island , Washington , just out of doors of Seattle . But it ’s not a century older , as so manysocial media accountsare claiming .
It ’s really from the 1950s . AsPicPedantandSnopespoint out , the bicycle is believed to have been abandoned on that Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree in the mid-1950s . The tree diagram is believed to have arise around it . A local sheriff namedDon Puzclaims it was his bicycle , but nobody knows for certain . All that we do know is that it ’s not from the 1910s .
