A rather massive coronal hole was recently spotted on the Sun by NASA ’s Solar Dynamics Observatory . The part — the size of 50 earthly concern — is spewing stuff into space at tremendous speeds . It may look terrifying , but astronomers say it ’s nothing to vex about .
The coronal hole was imaged on October 10 , 2015 . The picture above was train in wavelengths of 193 angstrom unit , which falls outside the spring of human vision ( NASA / SDO )
NASA says that these holes are magnetically uncover areas that generate gamy - speed solar winds . These saturnine , low density regions of the corona — the Dominicus ’s outmost atmosphere — contain little solar material , have lower temperature , and thus look much moody than their environment . Coronal mess are normal , appear at different places and with more relative frequency at different time during the Sun ’s activity cycle .

In twinkle of the phenomenon , the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Centerforecast a G1 - Minor storm from the 14th to 16th of October . This distance tempest is relatively harmless , though it could cut off satellites communications and high - altitude radio set transmission . The coronal golf hole produced a geomagnetic tempest near Earth that resulted in several dark of aurora .
