Rep. Dan Crenshaw ( R - TX ) is distressed that Apple Maps still calls the Gulf of America the Gulf of Mexico . So upset that he mark Apple CEO Tim Cook on X and said he ’d filed a complaint . “ Hey @tim_cook , just note Apple Maps still calls it the Gulf of Mexico . Sent a report through the app , but thought you ’d want to recognise ! ” said the former Navy Seal .
It seems that Crenshaw is upset , trigger off if you will , that Big Tech is n’t changing as tight as he ’d like it to . He ’s so overturned that he did a cringe Emily Post in the style of a suburbanite upset at Target . Crenshaw ’s whining typifies a doings I ’ve see in right - offstage pundits and politicians in the last few twelvemonth , the rise of a kind of billet and way once attributed to the left in on-line space .
Crenshaw is posting cringe and repeat down on the culture war . They ’re obsessed with identity politics , undertake to cancel their enemies , policing grammatical gender norms , and demand that the cultivation stoop to their whims despite the culture not being concerned . This is all the stuff they ’ve long criminate the left of doing .

Less than 24 60 minutes ago , as of this writing , Trump signed an executive order titled “ restore Names that Honor American Greatness . ” Along with a host of other changes , the order state that the U.S. would henceforth call the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America . Google and Apple have n’t updated the name .
These things take metre . But just because Trump says the name is different does n’t make it so . It ’s a body of piss that ’s not exclusively used by the U.S. and Mexico , and the rest period of the world will still call it the Gulf of Mexico . A deal of people who do n’t live in the U.S. purpose Google and Apple Maps and it ’s a good bet that thename wo n’t change for them .
Wikipedia also has n’t changed the name on its entry for the Gulf . “ Even if it was official , America does not get to own Wikipedia entry . [ It ] stays the Gulf of Mexico as the rest of the world calls it , ” state anunnamed Wikipedia editorin the redaction history of the page .
“ This is a modern translation of the Freedom fries flag waving , having nothing to do with geography and everything to do with politics , ” another Wikipedia editor said , referring to a post-9/11 attempt by conservativist to rename french fries . “ We have the same variety of matter as a repeated ill with British Isles from a serial of Irish editors . But Conservatives like Crenshaw will in public make the need , posting cringe and hinder themselves . Ignoble in triumph , they now demonstrate the traits they ’ve long accused their adversary of have .
The American rightfield has command over the Supreme Court , the presidency , and the legislature . That sort of entire political triumph is n’t enough . They want you to wish them too . They want you to express mirth at their jokes , take their memes seriously , and call the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America .
The pinned post on Crenshaw ’s 10 account is a “ Conservative Guide to the Culture Wars ” from 2021 . The 2nd item on the list is the call that a “ victor brainpower is estimable than a dupe mentality . ”
Over the next four days , I suspect we ’ll see a luck more cringe Wiley Post from Crenshaw and others as the victors squirm themselves into victims when every little thing does n’t go their fashion . Or when it does n’t go their room quite as fast as they ’d want .
