Game of ThronesauthorGeorge R.R. Martin , whose House Targaryen history tomeFire & Bloodis now hitting screen as HBO and Max’sHouse of the Dragon , isn’t directly demand in writing the series , which is nowin its second time of year . But he ’s been watching , and so far he ’s really liking it — with one new gain that he loved so much , he care he ’d thought of it himself .

If you ’re not caught up onHouse of the Dragonseason two , which is about to uncover its 4th instalment on Sunday , pamperer survey .

Fans ofFire & Bloodall sleep with thatBlood and Cheese — assassins rent by Daemon Targaryen to infiltrate the Red Keep — were going to pop up early in the show ’s 2nd season . devil ’s operating instructions are to hit Aemond Targaryen , the Team Green young grownup creditworthy for the end of Rhaenyra ’s Logos Lukein the season one finale . But there ’s a new character involved : Cheese ’s loyal domestic dog . Cheese is not a nice guy , and he ’s sure as shooting not always nice to his four - legged comrade . But we see just how connected they are when — in the second episode , “ Rhaenyra the Cruel”—Aegon orders all the ratcatchers employed by the crown to be publically executed . Blood did n’t know Cheese ’s name , you see , so the world-beater figure he ’d well just eradicate all of them to make certain he got the culprit . As ratcatcher - next champion and syndicate make out their eff ones dangle high above King ’s Landing , and react with tormented yell , we see one particularly sad aspect . A furry one .

In his glowing revaluation of the first two episodes , post on his Not a Blog , Martin give a special outcry - out toHouse of the Dragon‘s writers for comprise that new detail . “ The show impart a brand fresh character , ” Martin pen . “ The dog . I am … ahem … not unremarkably a fan of screenwriters append characters to the source material when adapting a story .   Especially not when the informant material is mine .   But that bounder was brilliant . I was inclined to hate Cheese , but I hat him even more when he kicked that dog .   And afterwards , when the hound [ sat ] at his feet , gazing up … that damn near broke my heart .   Such a little thing … such a footling dog … but his presence , the few short moments he was on screen , gave the ratcatcher so much humanity .   Human beings are such complex animate being .   The tacit presence of that dog remind us that even the worst of men , the vile and the venal , can bed and be bang . ”

Martin also added : “ I wish I ’d thought of that bounder . I did n’t , but someone else did . I am glad of that . ”
