The BBC and the Science Channel are making a docudrama about the 1986 Challenger space shuttle catastrophe , starring William Hurt as scientist , physicist and all - around awing person Richard Feynman , who investigated the tragedy as part of the Presidential Rogers Commission while battling Crab . The pic , titled 73 Seconds : The Challenger Investigation , wo n’t air until the fall , but at least we bed they seem to be get Feynman correct ; the resemblance here is a small uncanny , and besides , Hurt is a brilliant alternative for the function . Not Feynman - level brilliant , evidently , but still , pretty vivid .
