Yesterday , we learned that a Russian Progress cargo spacecraft intended for the International Space Station ( ISS)likely explodedon its way of life to orbit , and was lost .

Fortunately , NASA has articulate this will not impact operations on the ISS , so the spaceman wo n’t be going athirst any sentence shortly . The post has plenty of stocks in reserve , and another upcoming missionary station will insure it has all the substantive supplies it need .

“ The ballistic capsule was not carrying any supplies decisive for the United States Operating Segment ( USOS ) of the place , ” NASA said in astatement . “ The next missionary work schedule to birth freight to the station is an H - II Transfer Vehicle ( HTV)-6 from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency ( JAXA ) on Friday , December 9 . ”

Everything seemed to be going fine for the Progress 65 spacecraft after plunge yesterday at 9.51am EST ( 2.51pm GMT ) . But about six instant later , there appears to have been a problem during the third point separation . The vehicle subsequently explode , with report saying debris may have fall over Tuva in Russia .

Roscosmos , the Russian outer space agency , afterward confirmed the ballistic capsule had been lost .

This is the second Progress spacecraft to have been lose in the last couple of years , with a number of successful launching on either side of these two failures . Although there ’s no massive cause for concern at the moment , it ’s slightly distressful that the fomite has failed doubly recently .

And it perhaps puts greater stress on a number of other vehicles that are in operation , or soon to be , that will help keep the station resupplied through its life – until as late as 2028 .

At the moment , the said HTV vehicle is in mathematical operation , while SpaceX will also soonreturn to launchingits Dragon ejection seat . Orbital ATK ’s Cygnus fomite also use up supply to the place , and in a few year , we can expect to see a new mini blank plane called Dream Chaser , built by the Sierra Nevada Corporation , also join the fleet .
