Tim Burton Remaking Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman with Gone Girl Writer Gillian Flynn

Tim Burtonhas his sights set on a larger-than-life new project.

Allison Hayes starred in the originalAttack of the 50 Foot Woman, about a woman who becomes giant-sized after an alien encounter, later seeking revenge on a cheating husband.

Season 2 of Burton’sWednesdayis coming soon to Netflix, and his long-awaitedsequel to his 1988 filmBeetlejuiceis in theaters Sept. 6.

Flynn previously adapted her own novel for the 2014 filmGone Girl, which starred Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. Since then, she’s written the 2018 filmWidowsstarring Viola Davis, episodes of the HBO limited series version of her debut novelSharp Objects, and was showrunner on theseriesUtopia, which lasted one seasonon Prime Video in 2020.

Earlier this week, Flynn confirmed she’ll be adapting her second novel,Dark Places, into an HBO limited series. That announcement comes nearly a decade after the book became a 2015 movie starringCharlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult and Chloë Grace Moretz.

“We’re excited for this one,” the bestselling author, who last year launched her own publishing imprint with Zando Books,wroteon social media sharing theDark Placesnews.

“That’s why it is hard for me to watch the movies afterwards, because I still feel the emotional whatever of it. I don’t get a release from that," Burton said of his past experiences making major movies.

“But I do enjoy all the people I’ve worked with. On this last one,Beetlejuice 2, I really enjoyed it,” he added at the time. “I tried to strip everything and go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets. It was kind of like going back to why I liked making movies.”
